AESTAS: This concoction of salty waves, fresh cherry and bergamot, and blooms of honeysuckle is sure to help tell the story of a Summer on Italy’s Mediterranean coast.
As a dissection of Diptyque’s brand identity, this collaborative product design explores the brand’s history of genderless eau de parfum and hand-crafted, monochrome compositions. In an exciting twist, this product takes the importance of stories behind scents to a new level with a book-shaped, special edition box and an accompanying writing.
This project was made in collaboration with Talita O'Brien and Meghan Sawyer.
Research & Ideating
Conducting brand research and compiling examples of past products from Diptyque helped to inspire our early stages. Typefaces that were explored are mostly of French origin and are humanist with serifs that resemble Diptyque's typical hand-crafted letterforms. After narrowing down the selection of typefaces, we explored color palettes and names. With each option, we discussed what story could be told and developed into a design that would stay true to the vision of the brand.

Bottle Label Sketches
With a narrowed list of names and general stories for each scent, we explored hand-drawn sketches and then moved into a digital workspace, crafting our designs to reflect what visions we had for "AESTAS".
Package Designs
As we continued to refine our bottle label, we began exploring a box design. Although Diptyque usually uses typical box dimensions that you can fit any perfume in, the brand consists of telling stories and recreating them in their scents. As a small twist, we thought it would only be fitting to use a book-shaped box for our special edition design.
